i'm laura evans. the 372nd battalion of the d.c. national guard is being deployed to guantanamo bay in cuba this week to support the joint task force detaining enemy combatants. a ceremony was held today at the d.c. armory. fox 5's karen gray houston was there and has more. >> reporter: there are about 60 of them honored at the d.c. armory by colleagues, family members, d.c. police brass and other city officials. after a year of training at fort 11 worth in kansas and also in pennsylvania. it's an emotional parting as these military police are about to leave their families behind for almost a year. >> i think i've been on seven deployments now, so it's kind of like a routine type thing. >> he's been to japan, iraq, afghanistan. would you think his wife and five kids would be used to the

now. >> i hate it. i hate it. >> he is taking with him a flag. >> this is the government flag presented to the 372nd m p battalion from congresswoman holmes norton. >> and, of course, you can always count on congresswoman holmes norton to make sure the battalion gets its proper. >> they raise the state flag, but not the flag of d.c., and i tell them that will never happen any more. at the present time signed a bill to make sure everybody gets respect. >> reporter: the troops got ice cream and cake to go with their send-off hugs. they will be heading to gitmo on a support mission to help run the staff and to keep order. that doesn't mean they won't face danger. >> every mission has its own types of dangers, and this one is not exactly like afghanistan or iraq, but defendant its own dangers and its own challenges night. knew what i signed up for and i knew what i was getting myself

into. >> reporter: after seven years in the guard this is her first deployment. >> i'm eager to go. >> reporter: leaving a one and a two-year-old at home. all these guys also have day jobs when they're not on guard duty, but it is what it is. >> we need for you to get in the pirkt. >> reporter: at the d.c. armory, karen gray houston, fox 5 news. >> we are following a developing story in prince george's county tonight where police are searching for a murder suspect wanted for killing an elderly woman in capitol heights. police found 71-year-old geraldine mcintyre dead in her home yesterday afternoon. police are still trying to figure out what led to the attack. whether the suspect broke into her home or if it was someone she knew. >> at this thyme there's an investigation into whether it's a forced entry or whether the incident took place in the home, whether that person was let in or what it could possibly be. >> police still do not have a motive in the murder. they spent most of sunday

scouring the neighborhood and aletteredding neighbors about the crime. there is a cash reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest. and now to the district where police are investigating a stack that happened in northwest. they say a fight started inside a bar on u street. when it escalated, it moved outside, and that is when a man and a woman were stabbed. they have suffered from minor injuries. so far no arrests have been made. >> fox 5 is everywhere at 11:00. we begin in california where a massive manhunt for a cop turned killer continues. police announce they are putting a $1 million reward on the line to help capture christopher dorner, the former police officer suspected of killing three people in what police are calling a revenge plot for beg kicked off the force years ago. the focus of the search all weekend has been on the big bear mountain resort area. however, police say as long as dorner is alive he could be anywhere. to illinois now where police arrested two suspects in connection with to the death of a 15-year-old girl. the chicago teen was shot and

killed just days after performing at president obama's inauguration last month. first lady michelle obama paid her respects at her funeral yesterday. and at least three people are injured in mississippi tonight after a possible tornado swept through the city of hattiesburg. the storm causing major damage to several homes and businesses, including the campus of the university of southern mississippi. parts of louisiana, alabama, and mississippi remain under tornado or flash flood watches at this hour. vice president obama -- as president obama polishes the final draft of his state of the union address he used his saturday address to call on congress. >> at a time when economists and business leaders have said that our economy is poised for progress we shouldn't allow self-inflicted wounds to put that progress in jeopardy. so my message to congress is this. let's keep working together to solve this problem. >> it will be part of the

president's state of the union address on tuesday. plus, one senator threatens to derail two key cabinet nominations. fox 5's melanie alnwick has the roundup. >> reporter: whether it comes to the sequester, $85 billion in budget cut, members of congress agreed on one point night. think that sequestration is a bad idea all around. >> we've got to avoid it, we've got stop. >> i think all of us understand if it goes forward in less than three weeks it is going to have a dramatic negative impact. >> reporter: the cuts threaten more than 207,000 jobs in virginia. house majority leader eric cantor isn't hopeful that an alternative will materialize. he puts the solution in president obama's court. >> the president, he is the one who pro'sed the sequester in the first place. i'm questioning where this thing is going because he has not moved in any serious way but we remain anxiously waiting for him to come to the table to work with us. >> reporter: democrats think some of that $85 billion should

come from higher taxes. >> if you have spending cuts, education of our children, other investments like the national institutes of health where you are hindering growth, you are not going to reduce the deficit. so what we do need is more revenue and more cuts. >> reporter: for senator john mccain, defense cuts are the most damaging. >> the world is very dangerous. i'm sorry, i'm a little emotional about this but the men and women serving in the military deserve better. the consequences are severe. it requires a bipartisanship. would i look at some revenue closers? maybe so, but we've already just raised taxes. why do we have to raise taxes again? >> reporter: national security also an issue. after last week's senate confirmation hearings for two key cabinet members. senator lindsay graham sear reed in again on the attack in benghazi, libya, angry after hearing president obama may not have followed up with his defense team after learning

plenty of sunshine today but things are changing. we talked about the storms in the deep south. here they are racing across into georgia and then heading towards the coast. they are continuing to produce a lot of lightning and very large hail and some really severe weather there. but for us, quite a different story. we are keeping our eyes to the sky.

we are talking about rain as it heads across the course of tonight and into tomorrow, the first half of tomorrow at least. some could be freezing rain, especially near the mason dixon line. temperatures will play a big role in that. currently 39 at d.c., 36 at baltimore, 37 degrees at annapolis, 36 frederick, ho at martinsburg, winchester 39 degrees. we've got a ridge of high pressure moving out. that system is moving in. we are going to see the winds picking up by tomorrow gusting to 20 to 25 miles per hour. but a big warm-up coming tomorrow as our temperatures head into the upper 50s. but the rain is going to head through overnight, linger into the beginning of your monday and hang around until after midday or. so a look at futurecast. expect to see wet weather during your morning commute as we head through to the 8:00 and 9:00 hours. a bit of a break, then it starts to move out in the early part of the afternoon.
